SPRING MEETING
PACO will hold the quarterly meeting on March 29, 2001 at 9:00 AM at the ASTM Building, 100 Bar Harbor Drive in West Conshohocken, PA. This will be the Annual Meeting for PACO. Election of Officers and Board of Directors will take place and BOCA President Rodney Blane, C.B.O. will be present to swear in the new PACO Officers and Board of Directors. The educational program will be the based on the transition to the International Codes, specifically the BOCA National Building Code/1999 to the 2000 International Building Code, which will immediately follow after the meeting. The instructor scheduled for the educational program is a representative from BOCA International, Inc. PACO ANNOUNCES CO-SPONSORED SEMINARS WITH BOCA FOR 2001

PACO continues its commitment to provide quality education for those who seek continuing education credits as we look towards the Uniform Construction Code in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This is PACO’s fourth year as a BOCA Certified Educational Provider and the Education Committee is proud to announce the selection by BOCA International, Inc. to participate in co-sponsored seminars. BOCA International, Inc. has scheduled PACO to co-sponsor the following seminars for 2001:
     
Performing International Residential Code Building Inspections, 2000 June 25-27 Reading, PA
Overview of the 2000 International Fire Code Sept. 25 Reading, PA
Accessibility, 2000 Oct. 3 Reading, PA
Concept: Day Care/Assistant Living Center Use Dec. 12 Philadelphia, PA

MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS
Don’t forget to renew your membership for 2001. PACO is also looking for new members to join as we continue to increase our membership. Please remember to select PACO, Chapter #71 as your principal chapter, which is on the PACO membership application. Applications for renewal will be sent to current members and the membership application is also available on the PACO website at www.paco-71.org. Call Lee Miligan at 610-933-9179 for an application if you do not have internet access.

BOOK ORDERS
PACO is getting ready to place its next bulk order to BOCA for all your codebooks, and CD’s. As a current PACO member, you can receive a 10% discount on all books and CD’s purchased through PACO. The deadline to order for this bulk order is three weeks prior to a PACO quarterly meeting. Anyone who is interested in placing an order please contact Robert Duncan at 610-645-6162. PACO has ordered over $5,000 in books and CD’s for its members through the year 2000.
PACO IN THE SPOTLIGHT
The Pennsylvania Association of Code Officials (PACO), BOCA Chapter #71, has been chosen to be spotlighted in the January/February 2001 issue of The Code Official magazine. The PACO Board of Directors wish to thank all members for their continued dedication to the association, which continues to grow as each year passes. PACO continues to exceed expectations and meet major objectives, which include assisting and encouraging the education and certification of inspectors for professionalism in code enforcement. For more details about PACO, check out the next issue of the BOCA magazine.

MORE CD’S IN PACO’S FUTURE
At the last quarterly meeting on December 19, 2000, the membership voted to allow the treasurer to invest more membership money into another interest CD with E-Bank. PACO plans to take the interest from the CD’s and help contribute it towards a scholarship award. The first award to be given out this year will be the PACO service award, which is received by a qualified active PACO member who has contributed their professionalism and service to the organization or their community. This award recipient will receive a paid registration to the Annual BOCA Conference or an accredited seminar fee not to exceed the Annual BOCA Conference fee. 


L&I is waiting to here from you. At PACO’s December 2000 meeting, the UCC – Act 45 inspector training and certification was discussed with a representative from Pennsylvania’s Labor & Industry. The draft of the regulations is available at the L&I website, www.li.state.pa.us, click onto Uniform Construction Code. Please review the regulations and submit your comments and concerns in writing to L&I.

CERTIFICATION ALERT
The NCPCCI examinations based on the 2000 International Codes, offered through EXPERIOR, will NOT be available until Monday April 2, 2001. Until that date candidates for these exams will be allowed to register for, and take, the existing examinations based on the 1996 BOCA or 1998 International Codes. You must schedule your examination appointment for no later than Saturday March 31, 2001. Questions - Contact Experior at 800-280-3926 Examinations Offered through ASI (Accessibility, Concrete, Fire Prevention and Property Maintenance and Housing) have been updated to the 2000 International codes and will be available beginning January 2, 2001.
