Winter Meeting

The Pennsylvania Association of Code Officials will hold its quarterly business meeting on December 19, 2000 at 9:00 A.M. at the ASTM Building 100 Bar Harbor Dr. in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. The educational program will be the Uniform Construction Code (UCC) rules and regulations, which will immediately follow after the meeting.  Mr. Jim Varhola representing the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry will be in attendance to address concerns and questions in reference to the UCC and certification requirements for inspectors.  For more information or to obtain a registration form, please contact Lee Milligan at 610-933-9179.  There is no fee to attend for current PACO members in good standing•  

 

POSITIONS AVAILABLE
The Pennsylvania Association of Code Officials is seeking interested individuals to fill positions on the Board of Directors. The nomination committee reported that they are accepting nominees for the annual meeting in March of 2001. To qualify for a position as a board of director you must be an active PACO member in good standing, able to attend executive and quarterly business meetings. A Board of Director serves a one-year term, and no more than three consecutive one-year terms. If you are an active PACO member who is interested or if you know of an active member who is a quality candidate, please contact Robert Loeper, Jr., nomination chairman at 610-688-5600•

 

PACO SPONSORING THE “ACCESSIBILITY IN THE ICC CODE”
BOCA and the ICC have recently developed a certification test for accessibility. With that in mind the PACO education committee has scheduled an accessibility-training seminar on December 8, 2000 at a location to be determined•

PACO OFFERING A 10% DISCOUNT ON YOUR BOOK ORDERS! 
For those of you who are in the process of looking to purchase BOCA and ICC codebooks and commentaries, now is the time to take advantage of PACO’s book program. PACO offers all current members a 10% discount on all book purchases made through PACO! PACO will place a “bulk order” to BOCA prior to each PACO quarterly meeting. AWARDS PROGRAM
The PACO Board of Directors is accepting applications up to January 31, 2000. This award program is designed to reward a qualified active member of PACO for their outstanding service to the Association or their community. The award is given annually at the annual March business meeting and the annual award recipient will receive one of the following:
A. Complimentary registration fee (registration fee only) for attendance at the annual BOCA/ICC Conference.
B. Complimentary registration fee for attendance to one BOCA or any other building code related accredited seminar (registration fee only). The amount of the registration fee can not exceed the cost of the registration at the annual BOCA Conference.

INTERNET COURSES OFFERED
BOCA International and Central Michigan University have teamed up to offer you a Bachelor of Science in Administration with a focus in Code Administration. This program will evaluate life experience, allow transfer credits and offer all additional courses over the internet. PA DEPARTMENT OF L&I APPROVES ACCESIBILITY EXAMINATION
The Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner examination is now available. This examination is the one that will be approved by Pennsylvania Labor and Industry for the Accessibility certification. When registering for the examination be sure to use ASI Level 28. This is a Joint Examination and will be recognized by BOCA/ICBO/SBCCI•

NEW CERTIFICATIONS FOR 2001
Two new certifications will be available from BOCA in 2001. Zoning Inspector will be available on January 2, 2001 and Permit Technician will be available in early Spring 2001. Both of these examinations will be Joint Examinations recognized by BOCA/ICBO/SBCCI•

PREPARE FOR ACCESSIBILITY EXAMINATION 
Accessibility practice workbook will be available on line in early December 2000. This practice workbook will help you prepare for the Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner examination. To find out more log on to the BOCA website at www.bocai.org•

PACO MEMBER PRESENTED WALKER S. LEE AWARD
PACO member Michael A. Perrone, C.B.O., was presented the Walker S. Lee Award at BOCA’s 85th Annual Conference in Rochester NY. Mike is a BOCA past president and current Director of Building, Housing, Codes Enforcement, and Fire Marshal for the Borough of West Chester, Pennsylvania. The Lee Award is presented to an outstanding individual demonstrating leadership qualities through an effort to improve the knowledge, understanding and position of code officials.
