ANNUAL NOVEMBER TRAINING SYMPOSIUM

The 7th Annual November Training Symposium will be held November 15-17, 2010 at the Towamencin Fire Company Hall 1590 Bustard Road.

There will be three independent training classes offered this year.

Monday November 15, 2010: Gas Suppression and Kitchen Hood Extinguishing Systems presented by Jimbo Schifiliti of FSCI, Inc.

Tuesday November 16, 2010: Fire Alarm Plan Review presented by Tom Hammerberg of the AFAA

Wednesday November 17, 2010: Testing Inspection and maintenance of Fire Alarm Systems presented by Tom Hammerberg of the AFAA

Who should attend: Building and Fire Code officials involved in the inspection and plan review, design Professionals, fire alarm installers that want to be up to date on the proper way to inspect and review these items.

Instructor Biography:

James R. Schifiliti, President
Jim Schifiliti graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1970 with a Bachelors Degree in Technical Education and an Associates Degree in Fire Protection Technology. Jim Schifiliti is CEO of Fire Safety Consultants, Inc., in Elgin, Illinois. Jim is a member of several code committees including the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), NFPA 231D, and NFPA 24 committees, Society of Fire Protection Engineers, and International Code Council (ICC). He served on the International Fire Code Development Committee - 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. Jim also serves on the Advisory Board of the Oklahoma State University School of Fire Protection and Safety.

Thomas Hammerberg, AFAA
Tom Hammerberg is President and Executive Director of the Automatic Fire Alarm Association. He has been in the alarm industry for 35 years and with AFAA for 17 years. Tom is NICET Level 4 certified in the field of Fire Alarm Systems and is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist. Tom represents AFAA on the NFPA 72 Technical Correlating and Protected Premises Technical Committees, NFPA 90A and NFPA 101/5000 Building Services and Fire Protection Equipment and Fundamentals Technical Committees, the ICC Industry Advisory Committee and Life Safety Section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs.

Gas Suppression and Kitchen Hood Extinguishing Systems

Course Description -
This seminar covers the basic plan review, inspection, and system testing requirements for gas and kitchen hood suppression systems. Topics include: type of systems, nozzle spacing requirements, calculations, system components, plan review, and testing requirements with examples.

Fire Alarm Plan Review 1-day Course Outline

Course Description -
This application course describes the common problems associated with the plan review process and offers suggestions for improvement by providing plan review and acceptance test checklists, spreadsheets for determining battery and voltage drop calculations, exercises to determine proper spacing of smoke detectors, exercises for determining proper audibility of fire alarm notification appliances and for determining proper sizing and placement of visible notification appliances. This seminar is intended for authorities having jurisdiction involved in fire alarm system plan review, contractors providing submittal documentation for plan review and fire alarm system designers.

Fire Alarm System Testing & Inspections 1-day Course Outline

Course Description -
This basic application course describes the requirements for fire alarm systems tests and inspections, and how to correctly perform these tests and visual inspections to meet the requirements of the NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm Code. This fire alarm seminar is beneficial for installers performing acceptance or reacceptance tests of new fire alarm systems; service technicians performing periodic testing and inspections of existing fire alarm systems; building and fire inspectors involved in witnessing acceptance and reacceptance testing; and personnel representing the owner responsible for the testing and inspections of fire alarm systems in their facilities.
